KAWS COMPANION COMES TO PHILLY

It has come to pass…the KAWS Companion has landed at 30th Street Station.

Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in collaboration with Amtrak bought the 16 foot-tall Companion sculpture to rest at 30th Station.

Kaws Companion will be there until May 14th, then it’ll be hauled away for some other city to enjoy.  Lucky for us, it’s departure won’t signify the end, but the arrival of the KAWS Sculpture Plinth Exhibit at PAFA.

KAWS COMPANION COMES TO PHILADELPHIA’S 30TH STREET STATION
What an evolution for the Street Artist known as KAWS - the past few years have seen a burgeoning explosion of his work. Now the creation he’s known best for, The Companion (Passing Through) is part of an exhibition being taken around the world. The Companion will sit in several places throughout 2013.  Including my hometown, Philadelphia come April 11th, 2013.

KAWS’S COMPANION IS A NOW A MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE BALLOON
WHAT?!
This if officially the number #1 reason I’m pissed that my holiday flight out is tomorrow morning, because I’m going to miss the new KAWS Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon. These past few years Macy’s has gone all artsy with their new balloon additions- and let’s face it, no complaints here. It’s great to see recognizable art/street art figures being represented in such a main stream event. So now KAWS joins the Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Tom Otterness and Tim Burton balloons.
What’s next year’s surprise Macy’s?…I’m waiting.
And what an evolution for KAWS…street artist to galleries, showing at the Armory and now a big 40-foot-long Macy’s balloon. What’s the bigger honor I wonder?

OriginalFake x Medicom Toy Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket
It’s the first time I’ve wanted Disney memorabilia since I was…well, nevermind the age. At least the signature Kaws’ skull head and crosses won’t make you feel like you just skipped out of the Magic Kingdom. kawsone.com
