HIGH ON ART, HEAVY ON ANTICS

Yesterday I received an email from Philly-based Artist & MC, Dewey Decibel. His new video was dropping today he said…It’s called High on Art, he said.

Years ago I sat in a room with Dewey and rattled off the name of my then  new magazine. “That’s dope,” he said. So imagine how dope it was to play his new video in the office and hear the opening lines boom throughout the room…:”High on Art and I’m Heavy on Antics, I don’t understand why you don’t understand this..”

He took our moniker and made it his own. After all, that is the essence of HAHA MAG - Art For Everyone - I couldn’t be more honored.

SEPTA SPEAKEASY

The National Constitution Center is kicking their American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition exhibit up a notch partnering with Philadelphia’s transportation company SEPTA. They’ve transformed the exterior and interior of several SEPTA Regional Rail Silverliner cars into mobile 1920’s speakeasy.

Here’s the fun part - if you take a photo on the train and post it to Twitter using the hashtag #NCCSpeakeasy or to Facebook and tag both the National Constitution Center and SEPTA you have a chance to win a pair of tickets to the American Spirits exhibition. SEPTA pass holders will also receive $2 off the regular admission price at the center’s box office.

Needless to say, I’m going to be taking the train more this month.

American Spirits: The Rise And Fall Of Prohibition

When: October 19, 2012-April 28, 2013
Where: 525 Arch Street
Cost: $17.50 for adults, $16 for seniors and students, $11 for children ages 4-12
More info: www.prohibition.constitutioncenter.org

Who’s Giving Philly The Finger?

Streetsdept, a blog that uncovers the Philly Street Art Scene reported on the new paste featuring Philly’s Skyline that popped up over the weekend on Front st. in Fishtown.

…still no clue who the artist behind it is. But they have captured a funny Philadelphian attitude.

Saturday in Rittenhouse

Saturday as I strolled through Rittenhouse Park in downtown Philadelphia I noticed a couple of great arts programs utilizing the good weather and a great space.

LAB - Lindy and Blues -  www.lindyandblues.com

Normally LAB is holding it down out there on Sunday afternoons for Rittenhop. But they really shine on Tuesdays when they pack the Ethical Society for a free group lesson (no partner necessary) followed by a packed three hour social dance to swing and blues music.

I haven’t been in awhile but if you’re there ask for one of the regulars - Stuart - one of the best dance partners there - hands down.

Dance Philadelphia - Argentine Tango - www.dancephiladelphia.com

On the other side of the park Dance Philadelphia holds a captive audience with “Tango In The Square”. Every 2nd & 4th Saturday, 5-8.

Philly’s MAD DECENT Block Party was just that. Like Diplo said in his late night Twitter after yesterday’s 7 hour fest, “Yo, Philly you broke the block party!” Philly used to own it but MAD DECENT is traveling now and I hear the next party is heading to NY.

You can hit this link for the MAD DECENT facebook page. This link will take you to our pics of madness - well the ones we could get. Saying the party was packed just wouldn’t cover it.
