HILARY WHITE / THE ENDLESS ONE

Philadelphia based artist Hilary White is having a solo show over at Paradigm Gallery + Studio on South

It’s been awhile since Hilary White had a proper exhibition - she’s been taking some time off to explore other things. The few images I’ve seen of her new mixed media work have been via her Instagram. For those who follow White’s work, like myself, the sneak peeks have created quite a stir for her show tomorrow night at Paradigm Gallery + Studio.

Most of White’s pieces combine intricate wood working with brightly colored acrylics (sometimes surprisingly pieces are motorized - must be that extra wow factor). Though its the size of her works and the unique way she infuses science, faith and imaginings into her pieces that truly make them gems.

The Endless One - Mixed Media Works by Hilary White . 6pm-10pm

Re-Imagining The World of Tomorrow

We love Kickstarter campaigns around here - especially local ones.

Philadelphia based Photo Artist & Educator (Tyler School of Art & University of the Arts alum), Walter Plotnicks re-imagines the 1939 New York World Fair in a series of photographs that blend vintage images of the “World of Tomorrow” themed 1939 New York World’s Fair with images depicting feats of daring performed by 1930’s circus performers using wet photography + digital process.

“On the surface, these are two disparate themes. But for me, the commonality is humanity striving to reach its potential. The 1939 New York World’s Fair presented this on a grand stage, showing what was possible in technology with the right vision and will, engaging science, commerce, and government in an inspiring display of imagination. The circus performers, with little or no technology, took us to the outer limits of skill and performance using only the human body. Together, they offer us a thrilling picture of what we can do when we have the faith to leap forward to the next level.”

The stunning results are to be featured in Plotnick’s upcoming solo show being held in Belgium at the Talent Voor Kunst Galerie.

Since we last spoke his Kickstarter campaign to fund the large expense of printing, matting, insuring & shipping the artwork to Belgium has been fully funded.

Congrats Walter!

HOLLIS HART’S CARDBOARD ART

The work of LA - based artist, Hollis Hart. It’s Seussically Burtonesque and there’s the turn on…if you’re into that sort of thing.

Her Instagram is a wonderland of her current and past projects – one of which, The Barfday Project is a picture series of her gouging herself on cardboard cake surrounded by cardboard balloons and then subsequently ‘barfing up’ colorful piles of cardboard.  You see where I’m going with this right?

After she photographs her creations they’re up for bid on her Etsy, Marveled Savage.

A PICTURE WALK THROUGH PHILADELPHIA’S MAGIC GARDENS

There’s nothing quite like Isaiah Zagar’s (award-winning mosaic mural artist) mosaic playground… last night I popped over to the Magic Gardens for Garden Sips - a great night out to support PMA’s annual Street Festival ART/GAGE: Celebrate Philly Creativity.

As the sun started going down, and the Garden lit up, I took the opportunity to take some great shots. Enjoy… And if you’re in Philly, make sure you stop by and experience the Gardens for yourself. Maybe even treat yourself to a  Mosaic Mural Workshop with Isaiah himself.

INSIDE THE RAIN ROOM

Looks like I have another reason to visit the Rain Room over at MoMA (Museum of Modern Art). We were lucky enough to have a preview of the room the night of the MoMA PS1 Expo1 Opening Party. But alas, we lost our shots. So we’re giving you some amazing shots that folks have been taking while inside Random International’s exhibit.

The Rain Room is interactive - you step into this intense, expansive room with the roaring sound of rain coming down all around you, yet the installation’s sensors sense your movements and shut of the water around you - creating a magical effect, giving you the feel that you wield some control over the weather - not to mention, it makes for some pretty decent photo ops.

The exhibit runs until July 28th and is well worth the wait in line to experience.
