HIGH ON ART, HEAVY ON ANTICS

Yesterday I received an email from Philly-based Artist & MC, Dewey Decibel. His new video was dropping today he said…It’s called High on Art, he said.

Years ago I sat in a room with Dewey and rattled off the name of my then  new magazine. “That’s dope,” he said. So imagine how dope it was to play his new video in the office and hear the opening lines boom throughout the room…:”High on Art and I’m Heavy on Antics, I don’t understand why you don’t understand this..”

He took our moniker and made it his own. After all, that is the essence of HAHA MAG - Art For Everyone - I couldn’t be more honored.

-Ginger aka The Editor

Slow Art Day Meetup w/ HAHA MAG & Paradigm Gallery + Studio!

Slow Art Day is a fun organized event that happens at museums and galleries all over the world just one day out of the year.

It brings great people together to connect with art in a more meaningful way. Its about taking out the intimidation some might feel in a museum and creating a safe place to discuss and learn. Plus we get to meet up for lunch afterwards and converse about the art after having been recently inspired.

This year HAHA MAG is co-hosting a Slow Arts Day event at the Fabric Workshop & Museum of Philadelphia with artist & co-founder of Paradigm Gallery + Studio, Sara McCorriston.

We’re hoping for a beautiful spring day and a light carefree day of art and socializing.

It’s really easy to join us:

  • Sign up for the event here. The event is completely free to participate in.  Don’t wait too late… tickets are limited.
  • Show up at the museum on April 27th, pay the museum admission ($3).  Meet up - then look slowly (5-10 mins a piece) at the pre-assigned pieces of art.
  • Meet back up with us and the group at a pre assigned lunch spot to discuss our experiences/thoughts.

Again…The event is completely free to participate in, excluding price of admission to the museum ($3), and the individual cost of lunch.

any questions just drop a message in our inbox.

IT’S ALMOST TIME TO SAY GOODBYE…
to our Artist Series Editions Pins. It’s been a blast working with artists whose work we greatly admire to bring you guys these awesome limited edition HAHA redesigns. But sadly it’s almost time to end the series and start planning next year’s.
With 1 pin left to go we kinda figured, “Hey why don’t we ask our Tumblr fans if they want to design the last pin?!”
Yup, if you download the template here (use the 1.25 round button) and send us your design at global@hahamag.com by July 15th you just might have a chance at $50 USD and seeing your pin go global - into the hands of our subscribers. Just one thing though: you have to incorporate the word HAHA into your design.
So get to it already!! And if you missed out on getting one of your faves you can always grab one here.

“Slaying the Fairy Tale” - Q&A with “Fallen Princesses creator Dina Goldstein

*Photo courtesy and property of Dina Goldstein

HAHA MAG: I know as a child, I was affected by the Disney princess images, but since none of them resembled me, I really couldn’t relate.  As an adult, having not been exposed to the Disney Cannon, what were your first thoughts on being exposed to them? Did you relate on any level with any of them?

Dina Goldstein: I actually watched every fairy tale with my 3-year-old daughter as she was immersed and enjoying the story; I took notes and made observations for the project. What I noticed immediately was the formulaic story that portrayed each princess as a beautiful ‘victim’, poorly dressed and controlled by an evil female figure. Later to be saved by a handsome male figure that would marry her and make her life perfect forever. All in a time where no one has to worry about the environment, making the mortgage, parking tickets or long lineups at the supermarket… CLICK HERE TO READ ON

Dear Disney and Raytheon: this is extremely dark and horrifying satire set in the year 2020… and in case of any issues, I will attempt to use Lawrence Lessig as a human shield.
