Lost & Found by HOTTEA

Love this community project - HOTTEA  takes yarn bombing out of the simple wrapping up a tree and gives it more purpose in a public space that simply doesn’t just inspire but touches lives directly.

In urban neighborhoods you’ll find courts, but often most are missing the nets. Now this temporary pink installation is providing a place where children discover or resume the sport.

The simple ideas are often the best. For example, bundles of pink yarn can become a net for a vacant tennis court in Minneapolis (USA), giving back its original function. It’s LOST & FOUND by HOT+TEA.

FUN WITH RIZZO

Ok, so the word is out, street artist/yarn bomber, Ishknits (aka Jessie Hemmons) donned a hot pink bikini on the statue of the controversial once former Police Commissioner & Mayor of Philadelphia, Frank Rizzo. If you’re not a native Philadelphian then this humorous play might be lost on you.

According to Conrad Brenner of Streetsdept.com, who was on hand to snap the now infamous pics - the yarn bombing of Rizzo didn’t last long. Security was out to cut it down shortly after.

But hey…you know what they say. “You got pictures, you got proof.”

And a further congrats to Jessie who was being profiled for a segment on the French TV show Streetosphere.

Girl you make Philly proud. You can read Ishknits personal statement about the piece here on her site.

HAVE YOU BEEN TO OUR FLICKR PAGE?
We trek around alot, checking out art shows, cultural events in different cities. Sometimes we’re just goofing around…and we just can’t justify taking up a blog post for it. So we post it to our Flickr.
If you missed the Armory Show - it’s here. Didn’t get to NY for the Pulse Art Fair - it’s here. Did you miss Lollapalooza and all that great Chicago art, yup - it’s here. Fan of the work of Philly’s Yarn Bomber, IshKnits? - it’s here.
Come fool around with us on Flickr.

NEW ISHKNITS YARN BOMBING FOUND IN FISHTOWN
Philly’s own Ishknits (aka Jessie Hemmons) hit up Fishtown, spreading her rainbow of yarn over an old phone booth at the intersection of Front street and Girard avenue (under the Market-Frankford El).
We’ve got out chest stuck out with pride as we think back on our awesome collaboration with Jessie.
The ISHKNIT site is amazing so, Ch-Check it out here.

IT’S A WRAP!

In our final episode, the spotlight is on notorious Philadelphia Yarn Bomber, Jessie Hemmons. You might have seen her colorful bombs wrapped around trees in Rittenhouse or cozied up on bike racks around the city. Our host Lily delphia sits down with Jessie to chat about her inspiration for the project.

To see more of Jessie’s work hit up her website: www.ishknits.com

And remember, this Friday, November 12, join yours truly along with HAHA Magazine and all of our amazing artists at Paradigm Gallery to celebrate the completion of the Dutch Umbrella Project.

DJ PHSH will be spinning starting at 7 PM - which is when the beer starts flowing. The gallery is located at 2020 South Street and we will be pumping art and antics into the evening. Proceeds will benefit children’s art programming in Philadelphia. On behalf of HAHA Magazine, I thank you so much for all your support during the production of this project - we can’t wait to see your faces on Friday!
